PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound that facilitates synthesis and enables inexpensive and large-scale synthesis, to provide an antibacterial agent and a substance enhancing activities of other antibacterial agents each using the compound, to provide a reagent for synthesizing the compound and to provide a method for producing the compound.;SOLUTION: A sugar derivative or a salt thereof having antibacterial action or potentiation of antibacterial activity is represented by the formula as given below.
