PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an embedded type optical waveguide capable of reducing the number of working processes and obtaining a waveguide of polarization independence with a low loss.;SOLUTION: Metal films 2, 7 are accumulated on the lower surface of a first clad layer 4 and on the upper surface of a second clad layer 6, and voltage is impressed so that the potential difference occurs between the metal films 2, 7. The refractive index changes in a region where the voltage of a core layer 5 is impressed is changed by the electro-optical effect (the Pockels effect, the Kerr effect or the like) in comparison with that in the region where the voltage is not impressed. The region 5A of the core layer 5 where this refractive index is changed is formed in a linear shape in a horizontal plane, and thereby, this can be used as an optical waveguide 5A.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2016,JPO&INPIT
