PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fingerprint quality evaluation device capable of accurately evaluating an area appropriate for fingerprint collation and an area inappropriate therefor in a fingerprint image regardless of the fingerprint ridge line shape.SOLUTION: A fingerprint quality evaluation device includes a ridge line width distribution derivation part which provides an evaluation area of a predetermined size in a binarized fingerprint image and calculates a distribution value of ridge line widths in this area. The ridge line width distribution derivation part includes: pixel ridge line width calculating means 13 for calculating a pixel ridge line width; distribution calculating means for obtaining the pixel ridge line widths each corresponding to each of the pixels existing in each of the evaluation areas so as to calculate distribution values of the pixel ridge line widths thereof in such a manner that they respectively correspond to one color pixel and the other color pixel in each of the evaluation areas; and area distribution value determining means which determines a lower distribution value, selected out of the distribution values respectively corresponding to one and the other color pixels, as an area distribution value indicative of a distribution value corresponding to each of the evaluation areas.
