The invention also relates to a bacterial inoculum to be used in the leaching of metal sulfide ores or metal concentrates, comprising Sulfobacillus thermosulfidooxidans DSM 27601 strain Cutipay; and a method for bioleaching of ores where an ore is provided, which is selected from a metal sulfide ore or metal concentrate. Said ore is subsequently inoculated with the bacterial inoculum of the invention, and maintained at a pH of between 1 and 4, and at a temperature of between 10 and 60° C.
