image capture device, method for acquiring images of an object by means of an image capture device and electro-optical lens section. It is an image capture device which includes an electro-optical arrangement having an arrangement of polarizers, polarization sensitive optics and polarizing modulators. the first and second polarization sensitive optical elements are provided with an edge moved relative to a plane normal to an optical geometric axis of the electro-optical arrangement. a control system coupled to the electro-optical array controls the application of voltages to the polarization modulating elements to control the polarization rotation of the light input to the polarization sensitive optical elements, so that the optical path length of the sensitive optical elements change to enable object images to be captured in each of the different focal planes, the first and second polarization-sensitive optical elements generate lateral image shifts between their respective object images captured in the different focal planes in response to polarization of the light input to them.
