This invention relates to the use of rhodotorula mucilaginosa dead biomass for wastewater bioremediation and for industrial scale production of copper nanoparticles. In this invention a synthetic strategy for the biosynthesis and removal of copper nanoparticles is developed that is fast, inexpensive, environmentally friendly and easily scalable using rhodotorula mucilaginosa yeast as reducing agent.
