The method allows to effectively stabilize the antibody recognizing the 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine and / or 5-chloro-2'-deoxyuridine and / or 5-iodo-2'-deoxyuridine in the DNA at sites of incorporation of these nucleosides into DNA after treatment with a monovalent copper and / or exonuclease III. The method comprises incubating the sample after exposure to monovalent copper, and / or exonuclease III, and incubation with the antibody in the formaldehyde solution and is applicable both in case they are used in systems based on two antibodies, and systems based on an antibody conjugated to various substances e.g. fluorochromes.
