The present invention relates to a method and system for web based online diagnosis of multiple input/output variables of a process controller in a plant. The method comprises updating one or more process controllers with an offline structured file and an online structured file, where the offline structured file is created with a diagnostic list of all input/output variables of the process controllers and the online structured file is created with a list of variable and encrypted data to be updated at run-time. Each process controller interfaced with a web server is identified based on unique identification data entered by a user. After initiating a web client for the identified controller through the web server, the user is allowed to enter variable data on the web client. Permissive variables relating to the entered variable data for activation/deactivation of the identified controller are analyzed to obtain actual and expected values of the permissive variables from the respective offline and online structured files of the identified controller. A status table of permissive variables of the identified controller is generated and displayed on the web client based on the analysis of permissive variables from the respective offline and online structured files of the identified controller. Such method and system facilitate the user to easily monitor and diagnose the variables directly or indirectly influence digital/analog input-outputs of the controller without using any HMI/SCADA systems.
