The present invention refers to the Metarhizium fungus and method for controlling populations of dengue vector mosquitoes, and more particularly referring to native strains of the Metarhizium anisopliae fungus deposited as NRRL-50422 and NRRL-50458. These strains may effectively control Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes in a direct manner with spores or conidia or in an indirect manner through the infection of males with spores and the subsequent transmission of fungus to the females by copulation.
