The present disclosure is related to a system and method for comparing finger and palmprints regardless of the type of the minutiae descriptor. The system is effective when verifying finger and palmprints, as well as for the identification of latent finger and palmprints. The method performs multiple alignments of the prints; and for each alignment, is able to find a coincidence cluster. The clusters are mixed from a higher to a lower weight, to cover the entire print regardless of their global deformations. Then a Thin-Plate Spline model is constructed from the mixed clusters and with this, new coinciding minutiae is found. The resulting similarity value is calculated from the weight of all matching minutiae found.
