The invention relates to a method for taking a sample (14') from a flexiblepipe (10),wherein the flexible pipe (10) comprises an anti-collapse layer (12) formingan innerwall surrounding an inner space (9) of the flexible pipe (10), and at leastone linerlayer (14) surrounding the anti-collapse layer (12). The method comprises:- providing access to the liner layer (12) by making a hole (99) extendingfromthe inner space (9) of the flexible pipe (10) through the anti-collapse layer(12) intothe liner layer (14), and- taking the sample (14') from the liner layer (14) for allowing analysis ofthelevel of degradation of the sample (14') in a laboratory. The inventionfurther relatesto a tool for use in such method. The invention allows for sample collectionwhileleaving the flexible pipe in place and fully intact.
