A method and controller apparatus for controlling a boiler to supply water toa water loop ina hydronic building heating system is disclosed. The water loop passes throughat leastone suite in the building. The method involves receiving a suite temperaturereading froma temperature sensor installed inside the at least one suite, causing theboiler to heat thesupply water when the suite temperature reading is lower than a targettemperature by anallowed variance, the target temperature being based on an expected activityin the suite,and causing the boiler to discontinue heating the supply water when the suitetemperaturereading is higher than the target temperature by an allowed variance. A methodandcontroller apparatus for controlling a boiler to supply water to a water loopis also disclosedThe method involves receiving an outside temperature reading from atemperature sensorinstalled outside of the at least one suite, determining a boiler idletemperature based onthe outside temperature reading, controlling the boiler to supply water at theidle boilertemperature in response to a determination that heating of the water withinthe water loopis not currently required, and controlling the boiler to supply water at atemperature abovethe idle boiler temperature in response to a determination that heating of thewater withinthe water loop is currently required.
