ZINC-BROMINE FLOW BATTERY HAVING EXTENDED SERVICE LIFE

A structure and electrolyte composition of a zinc-bromine flow battery having an extended service life, where activated carbon felts are employed for both the positive and negative electrodes of the battery. For the purpose of solving the problem of reduced battery cycle lifespan due to zinc accumulation caused by employment of a carbon felt for the negative electrode, chloride ions are added into positive and negative electrode electrolytes. On the one hand, the open-circuit voltage and energy density of the battery are increased; on the other hand, the morphology of zinc deposits and the problem of zinc accumulation are greatly improved with the addition of the chloride ions, thus solving the problem of poor cycle stability brought forth by employment of highly activated carbon felts for a battery.
