According to the present invention, a method to control an exhaust gas recirculation valve may comprise: a step of calculating a determination constant based on a number of engine rotation and pressure difference between a front end and a rear end of an exhaust gas recirculation valve when turning on an exhaust brake; a step of determining whether the calculated determination constant is greater than a predetermined constant; and a step of controlling an opening of the exhaust gas recirculation valve when the determination constant is greater than the predetermined constant as a result of performing the determination step.
