PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a causal relation extraction device with which it is possible to extract a chain of causal relations including an intermediate event between a cause that is a reason and a final defect, and which is less susceptible to fluctuation in the expression of defect information.SOLUTION: A causal relation extraction device of the present invention comprises: a storage unit in which defect information that is a defect case example and a hierarchical structure of components are stored; a component/phenomenon extraction unit for extracting a word that indicates a component and a word that indicates a phenomenon from the defect information; a co-occurrence relation evaluation unit for evaluating a co-occurrence relation between the extracted word that indicates a component and the extracted word that indicates a phenomenon and combining the component and the phenomenon on the basis of evaluation, and thereby determining a plurality of elements that constitute a causal relation; and a causal relation extraction unit for sequencing, on the basis of the hierarchical structure, the determined plurality of elements as a chain of elements of the causal relation from those that include a component of lower hierarchy to those that include a component of higher hierarchy, and storing the sequenced chain of elements of the causal relation in the storage unit.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
