PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet stacking apparatus in which sheets can be stacked orderly at a pre-set position when stacking the sheets sequentially carried in, and a structure for that purpose can be provided easily and inexpensively.SOLUTION: A sheet stacking apparatus includes: a processing tray for temporarily stacking and storing sheets; a regulation stopper for regulating the sheets while being brought into abutment with a predetermined position; and sub-aligning means for aligning the stacked sheets while being brought into abutment with the regulation stopper after the sheets are carried in. The sub-aligning means is disposed at a sheet edge of the opposite side opposed to the stopper, and the position of the aligning surface is moved from a standby position apart from the sheet edge to an actuated position. Thereby, the sub-aligning plate corrects position in the case where a loaded lower layer sheet is co-fed by a position shift due to rebound or the aligning movement of the carried-in sheets to cause the position shift when the sheets carried on the processing tray are brought into abutment with the regulation stopper and aligned.
