METHOD FOR PRODUCTION OF CAUCASOSAPONIN FROM SOLOMON'S SEAL

The invention is related to processes for production of pharmaceutical products, in particular, to a method for production of caucasosaponin from Solomon's seal, the substance being the main active ingredient of diosponin, an antisclerotic preparation widely used at its time for treatment and prophylaxis of atherosclerosis. The method for production of caucasosaponin from Solomon's seal consists in that dried and ground root stalks are completely extracted with 70% ethanol, ethanol is evaporated, water residue is diluted with water, the precipitate is separated, saponins are extracted from water filtrate with n-butanol, n-butanol extract is washed with 10% ammonia solution, n-butanol is distilled off completely, the residue is dissolved in 70% ethanol, 95% ethanol is added, the solution is left for a while, the precipitate is separated, the water-alcohol solution is boiled dry, dissolved in 75% ethanol, filtered through a layer of activated carbon, the filtrate is boiled dry and dried. Yield of the target substance is 2.96%. The target product is white amorphous powder readily soluble in water and water-alcohol solutions, insoluble in 95% ethanol, chloroform, benzene, acetone. The product has chemical composition C₅₁H₈₂O₂₂, molecular mass 1046, melting point 220-222°C, specific rotation [α]²⁰_D - 62,6° (c 0.2; 60% ethanol).
