Fast acting auxiliary electronic governor for active power control and ramp rate control of wind farms

The fast acting auxiliary electronic governor (6) is operated in parallel with the wind farm power station control system (7). It is used to divert power to variable braking resistive loads (3) by means of soft starting or by discrete steps using switching power electronics (4) as shown in figure 4. The auxiliary electronic governor is designed in line with grid code compliance of wind farm power stations, specifically to for improved active power control under normal operating conditions and to achieve DMOL (designed minimum operating level) and ramp rate control limits as defined in EirGrid grid code version 5. In another embodiment super capacitors (5) can be incorporated into the design to provide the additional functionality of positive and negative active power control. Figures 1, 3 and 4
