A two-phase induction motor (10) with high efficiency is realized. If the output torque at the time when the maximum rotational speed occurs be a rated output torque, the impedance values of the main coil (12) and the auxiliary coil (14) of the two-phase induction motor (10) are set such that the maximum rotational speed and the rated output torque are obtained in a state that voltages lower than or equal to √2/2 times an alternate-current voltage that a commercial alternate-current power source (30) outputs are applied to the main coil (12) and the auxiliary coil (14).
