This invention relates to a biomimetically tailored precipitation process for producing uniform, nearly spherical, nano sized calcium carbonate particles comprising the steps, cloning the ß-class carbonic anhydrase gene from Azospirillum brasilense in to an over expression vector pET15b, to produce recombinant carbonic anhydrase wherein the heterologous expression is done in the expression host E. coli BL21 (pLysS), purifying His-tagged BCA using Ni-NTA resin, adding purified recombinant carbonic anhydrase in the reaction mixture wherein CO2 gas is bubbled through this reaction mixture, subjecting the reaction mixture to the step of precipitation wherein the precipitate is allowed to settle and separated from the reaction mixture.[IN-DEL-2009-00433A]
