The present invention provides a cuttings collector for collecting side border cuttings of an in line coil to coil or coil to sheet metal slab processing line, wherein the cuttings collector comprises a receiving guide having an inlet end and an outlet end for receiving the side border cuttings, and a shredder arranged at the outlet side of the receiving guide. The invention also provides a method for processing coils of metal slab material wherein such a cuttings collector is used.
