A method of determining geological informationrelated to a subsurface volume. In one embodiment,the method comprises obtaining a seismic informationrelated to a subsurface volume; determining a horizonvolume that automatically maps the seismic informationinto a flattened volume, wherein one axis of the flattenedvolume corresponds to chronostratigraphic time, andwherein horizons represented by the seismic informationare automatically accounted for in the horizon volume,and are shifted by the horizon volume into the flattenedvolume to be substantially planar and substantiallyperpendicular to the axis of the flattened volume that correspondsto chronostratigraphic time; determining a derivative ofthe horizon volume with respect to chronostratigraphictime; and determining geological information related tothe subsurface volume based on the derivative of thehorizon volume with respect to chronostratigraphic time.
