A computer-implemented method for making rapid periodicmovements of a subject of examination visible to the human eye,comprising the steps of: sampling the subject of examination anddetermining a fundamental frequency of said subject, determininga still capture rate based on the fundamental frequency of saidsubject, determining whether still or slow motion photographs orvideo of said subject is to be captured and determining asampling frequency needed for capturing said still or slowmotion photographs or video, determining exposure and brightnesssettings for capture of the still or slow motion photographs orvideo of the subject, and capturing photographs or video of thesubject at the sampling frequency, exposure setting, andbrightness setting.
