Provided in the present invention are a method and apparatus for improving service detection reliability in a switched network link, the method comprising: after a line card receives a notification message sent by a master control board, the line card is driven to create and activate a keep-alive timer by means of a preset second detection period, the notification message carrying a first detection period, the duration of the second detection period being greater than the duration of the first detection period; using the first detection period to encapsulate a bidirectional forwarding detection BFD detection package, and sending the encapsulated BFD detection package to a second device; if a BFD detection response package returned by the second device is received within the second detection period of the keep-alive timer, then extracting the first detection period in the BFD control field carried in the BFD detection response packet, and setting the keep-alive timer to the first detection period. The embodiments of the present invention can solve the problem of false reporting of link failure caused by the packet transmission time of two terminal devices being different due to problems such as main control board delay, large capacity, or performance of the devices.
