The invention relates to a device for optimizing the use of volume in logistics applications, comprising the following: • - at least one image sensor (2) for generating raster image data of at least one part of a transported material (90); • - at least one location sensor (3) for complementing the raster image data of the image sensor (2) with location information so as to form transported material data; • - a processing device (4) which compares the transported material data with a specified volume, wherein the comparison includes a check to determine whether the transported material data is arranged within the specified volume, and • - a data output unit (5) which outputs the result of the comparison of the transported material data with the specified volume. The invention further relates to an assembly consisting of the device (1) for optimizing the use of volume in logistics applications and a transported material (90).
