The present invention relates to the field of vehicle safety, and provides a data collection method of a safe following distance prompting technology and a safe following distance system. The method comprises: recording one or more speed intervals, safe following distances corresponding to the speed intervals, and matching relationships between the speed intervals and the safe following distances; detecting, during vehicle driving, a vehicle driving speed and a distance between the vehicle and a vehicle ahead; determining whether the current following distance is less than a safe following distance corresponding to the vehicle driving speed; and if not, maintaining the original status; or if yes, prompting a user to keep the safe following distance, and sending technology use data to a data collection end preset by a manufacturer. The present invention can avoid traffic accidents of rear-end collision caused by an excessively close distance between front and back vehicles when an emergency occurs. In addition, a manufacturer can effectively collect use information of the related technology in time by means of timely feedback after the use of the technology.
