A method for evaluating flashover fault of ceramic column type circuit breaker of 220kV and above, which comprises the steps of: step 1, extracting fault current waveform feature data through fault current waveforms in fault filtering equipment, wherein the fault current waveform feature data includes time t1 from arc extinction to fault current occurrence, fault current duration t2 and fault current waveform features; and step 2, judging flashover fault types according to the fault current waveform feature data, wherein the flashover fault types include external flashover, restrike internal flashover and insulating wall internal discharge internal flashover. The method regards the fault waveform recording current as an evaluation object. Waveforms present different features since generating mechanisms of various types of flashover faults are different. Thus the flashover types of the ceramic column type double-break circuit breaker caused by deficiencies in design of a body can be accurately judged, misjudgment can be effectively avoided, flashover fault analysis time can be saved, and fault analysis reliability can be improved.
