The present invention provides a method and a device for controlling a dependent electronic device or supporting control of the dependent electronic device by learning an infrared (IR) signal, autonomously learning a remote control signal in a predetermined space, so as to control any electronic device based on a remote control signal. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the method comprises the following steps of: (a) a controlling electronic device in a predetermined space referring to a predetermined database to acquire control signal guide information corresponding to an identifier of a predetermined IR signal, or to support a control electronic device in a space different from the predetermined space to acquire control signal guide information corresponding to the identifier of the predetermined IR signal when the predetermined IR signal to control a predetermined dependent electronic device in the predetermined space is acquired; and (b) the controlling electronic device in the predetermined or different space using the acquired control signal guide information to generate the predetermined IR signal or support generation of the predetermined IR signal when a user in the predetermined or different space wants to control the predetermined dependent electronic device or the electronic device of the same type as that of the predetermined dependent electronic device. The database acquires a plurality of IR signals in a first to a n^th space (the first to n^th spaces include at least the predetermined space or the different space), selects a non-overlapped IR signal among the plurality of IR signals, and manages the corresponding control signal guide information by non-overlapped IR signal.
