Techniques related to a leveled touch surface having a planar translational response to vertical travel are described herein. Examples of touch surfaces include a key on a keyboard, a touchpad on a laptop, or a touch screen on a smartphone or tablet computer. With the techniques described herein, the touch surface is limited in the level direction and remains stationary while the user presses the touch surface, such as a button or a key. In addition, with the techniques described herein, the planar-translational-motion mechanism imparts a planar translation to the touch surface while it is traveling vertically (e.g., downwardly) when the user presses the touch surface.
