A method for mass spectrometry is disclosed that involves performing a plurality of series of experiments, each series including periodic mass analysis of fragments or productions at a plurality of time intervals, with a delay time between the beginning of the series of experiments and the first time interval in which the Fragment or productions are mass analyzed, is provided. In different series of experiments different delay times are provided and fragment or productions analyzed in the same time interval in at least one of the series of experiments and analyzed at other time intervals in at least one other of the series of tests are identified as fragments or productions of interest. These fragment or productions are then determined to be related to different precursor ions and are used to identify their respective precursor ions.
