The present invention relates to a method for moving a body in a magnetic field, which can be used both for the measurement of magnetic fields and for driving an electric motor. In the method, a time-varying current is passed as a displacement current across the body through a body-spaced electrode while exposing the body to a constant or time-varying magnetic field. Due to the magnetic field component perpendicular to the current direction in the body this is moved by the Lorenz force relative to the electrode. When used as a magnetic field sensor, a change in capacitance between the body and the electrode can thereby be generated and measured, from which the size of the magnetic field can be derived. The proposed method allows the realization of semiconductor magnetic field sensors, which can be used even at very high temperatures.
