The invention relates to a method of exploitation by a centre for managing a fleet of bi-mode vehicles (2), individually motorized, characterized in that it comprises the following steps: - providing several bi-mode vehicles (2) useable individually in "self-service" mode, or in "shared transport" mode once they have been hitched together to form a communal vehicle of alterable size, - using exploitation data relating to regular or occasional requirements to forecast the number and the location of the individual vehicles, as well as the number, the size, the path and the travel schedules of the communal vehicles that need to be made available to users, - undertaking the configuration of the appropriate number of bi-mode vehicles in "self-service" mode and in "shared transport" mode.
