The present disclosure relates to a communication scheme and a system thereof for converging with IoT technology with a 5G communication system for supporting a higher data throughput after a 4G system. The present disclosure may be applied to an intelligent service (e.g. smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car or connected car, heath care, digital education, retail business, or security and safety-related service, etc.) on the basis of 5G communication technology and IoT-related technology. In a method for allowing first user equipment (UE) to process calls in a communication network, a first call that is one of a circuit-switched call and a packet-switched call is established with a second UE, a second call that is one of a circuit-switched call and a packet-switched call is established with a third UE while the first call is in an active state, and the first and second calls are merged on the basis of a specific event.
