The gas turbine engine includes a composite apparatus body (13, 52, 53, 19, 21) formed from a composite material, the composite material including a three dimensional preform (300), the three dimensional preform (300) including a plurality of warp fibres (304) disposed in a warp direction (314) in a first plane, a plurality of fill fibres (302) disposed in a fill direction (312), wherein the fill direction (312) is perpendicular to the warp direction (314) in the first plane, a plurality of z-yarn fibres (306) disposed in a z-yarn direction (316), wherein the z-yarn direction (316) intersects the warp direction (314) through the first plane, and a plurality of bias fibres (308) disposed in a bias direction, wherein the bias direction is not aligned with the warp direction (314) and the fill direction (312).
