PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and appropriately change a work dealt with by an operator.SOLUTION: In an embodiment, a telephone answering system includes an exchange and a work providing server. The exchange assigns an incoming call to any one of a plurality of communication apparatuses preset for each work type. The work providing server notifies the exchange of setting of a communication apparatus set for a second work different from a first work to the first work when there is a first work whose number of calls waiting for an incoming call not allocated to the communication apparatus by the exchange exceeds a preset threshold. In response to the notification from the work providing server, the exchange sets the communication apparatus set for the second work for the first work.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
