PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus comprising a novel mechanism which reports a return time based upon information reported from an application for controlling electric power mode of the information processing apparatus.SOLUTION: An information processing apparatus which may be in a first electric power mode and a second electric power mode less in power consumption than the first electric power mode comprises: an electric power control application which controls the electric power modes of the information processing apparatus; and a device which reports a return time to an OS. The electric power control application reports information representing an electric power mode of the information processing apparatus to the device. The device determines the return time to be reported to the OS based upon the information reported from the processor, and reports the determined return time to the OS. The OS determines an electric power saving state to which the processor transitions based upon the return time reported from the device, and allows the processor to transition to the determined electric power saving state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
