PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To select an area suitable for one's lifestyle, without a user input.SOLUTION: A residential area selection device 100 comprises: a first exclusion unit; a calculation unit; a second exclusion unit; and an output unit. The first exclusion unit excludes information corresponding to a route position of public transport means, out of pieces of positional information of a portable terminal associated with user identification information for each time. The calculation part calculates movement speed of the portable terminal for each time, based on the excluded positional information of the portable terminal for each time. The second exclusion part excludes data including feature information of an area where a user cannot move easily unless the user uses a private vehicle, out of a list of data in which an area name and feature information of an area are associated, when the movement speed of the portable terminal calculated for each time is equal to or less than a first value.
