The present invention relates to (1) a novel DNA primer set usable for highly efficient real-time qPCR of hepatitis B virus (HBV) circular DNA (ccc DNA), and (2) A novel high-throughput method for the quantification of cell-derived HBV ccc DNA is provided. The present invention also provides for the use of this method in monitoring ccc DNA levels in experimentally infected hepatocytes and assessment of the therapeutic effect on HBV.
