PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To assist an operator in work for identifying a character string handwritten on a slip.SOLUTION: A character recognition unit 42 executes a character recognition process on a character string entered in a handwriting entry column of an entry medium (slip) including the handwriting entry column in which a predetermined number of characters are printed in advance and characters preceding the predetermined number of characters are to be handwritten. A search unit 44 and a display control unit 46 exert a control to determine whether to present a character string excluding a character string of the same number as the predetermined number of characters from a rear end side of the character string recognized as being present as a candidate or to set a priority order at a time of presenting the character string as the candidate, depending on whether the character recognition process recognizes that characters are present but the character string includes characters that cannot be identified and whether the character string that has the same number as the predetermined number of characters and that does not contradict the predetermined number of characters is present on the rear end side of the character string recognized as being present.
