PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a blood coagulant which is superior in blood clot separation efficacy, and which is capable of obtaining an examination value of high reliability in measuring thyroid stimulation hormones.SOLUTION: Provided is a blood coagulant which contains: a sparingly water-soluble polyoxyalkylene derivative; at least one kind of substance selected from a group consisting of an adsorptive inorganic substance and a hydrolase; a polyvinyl pyrrolidone; and a polyvinyl alcohol. In the blood coagulant, the hydrolase is an enzyme capable of hydrolyzing at least one of a bonding between Arg and any amino acid residue and a bonding between Lys and any amino acid residue in a peptide chain. Further, in the blood coagulant, a saponification degree of the polyvinyl alcohol is higher than 98 mol% and no more than 100 mol%.
