A BIOLOGICALLY PURE BACTERIAL STRAIN OF BACILLUS PANTOTHENTICUS AND A NOVEL BIOCONTRQL COMPOSITION The present invention describes a novel biologically pure, temperature and salt tolerant strain of Bacillus pantothenticus NBRI K24 (MTCC 7662), which exhibit antifungal activity on certain specific plant pathogens. The pure strain is obtained by screening fly ash and is useful for enhancing plant growth and yield as well as for the production of antibiotics directed towards of crops fungal diseases. More specifically the present invention relates to use the novel bacterial strain for protecting and treating plants from fungal infections. More particularly the present invention describes a method that comprises the step of applying to the plant an effective amount of antifungal metabolite(s) - producing novel Bacillus pantothenticus NBRI K24. The invention also finds the utility of the novel strain as a composition that can be directly applied to seed or rhizosphere in the form of whole broth cultures or supernatant that result in an increase in plant yield.
