Prohormone arginine-vasopressin as a biomarker predictive of diabetes

Method to predict the risk of a subject developing type II diabetes mellitus or to identify a subject that is at greater risk of developing type II diabetes mellitus, which comprises the following stages: a. prepare a sample taken from said subject, b. determine the level of copeptin in said sample, c. use said level of copeptin to predict the likelihood of the subject developing type II diabetes mellitus, or to infer from it a risk that the subject develops type II diabetes mellitus, and compare it with the median level of copeptin in a set of predetermined samples from a population of apparently healthy subjects.
