Methods and compositions for preventing and relieving muscle cramps and for the recovery of neuromuscular irritability and fatigue after exercise

A composition formulated for oral ingestion comprising an effective amount of one or more activators of the TRPV1 channels, activators of the TRPA1 channels, activators of the ASIC channels, or any combination thereof for use in a method for the treatment of muscle cramps , musculoskeletal irritability, or to improve muscle recovery in a subject in need thereof, wherein said method comprises administering said composition to the subject; wherein said composition is an oral formulation that is a liquid, beverage, gel, semi-solid, solid chewing gum, or spray; wherein said composition is administered to said subject before, during, or after exercise, wherein said composition comprises an effective amount of two or three independently different TRP channel activators selected from: (a) capsaicin or capsaicinoids others; (b) cinnamaldehyde or cinnamon oil; and (c) gingerols, and wherein said composition comprises at least one TRPV1 channel activator wherein said TRPV1 channel activator is capsaicin or another capsaicinoid.
