A method for carrying out a first refueling mission with a refueling aircraft (100, 200), which has a first refueling system, the method comprising: providing a number of control stations (404) in the fuselage of the refueling aircraft (100, 200), where each of the number of control stations (404) can be configured to control the first refueling system and any of a plurality of second systems (408) ; configure (1400) the number of control stations (404) to selectively control the refueling system and a plurality of second systems (408) in the refueling aircraft (100, 200) to form a number of configured control stations, wherein the plurality of second systems (408) includes a cargo handling system (430), a special operations system (432), an air traffic management system (434), a transportation system of passengers (435), a medical evacuation system (436), a vision system (437), a weather system (439), a detection system (438), an actuator system (440) and a connection system electrical (442), and wherein each of the plurality of second systems (408) is capable of performing a mission within a number of other missions; and perform the first refueling mission and at least one of the number of other missions during a flight using the number of control stations configured, where the number of other missions is selected from at least one of a transport mission of cargo, a medical evacuation mission, an air traffic management mission, an intelligence mission, a reconnaissance mission and a surveillance mission.
