A composition comprising an effective amount of a polysulfated polysaccharide and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for use in treating bone marrow edema in a mammal, wherein the polysulfated polysaccharide is selected from the group consisting of pentosan polysulfate, the salt of Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium (NaPPS), Pentosan Polysulfate Magnesium Salt (MgPPS) and Pentosan Polysulfate Calcium Salt (CaPPS).
