AN AUTOMATED SYSTEM FOR MEASUREMENT OF ZONE 1 IN ASSESSMENT OF SEVERITY OF RETINOPATHY OF PREMATURITY

An automated method for diagnosing and evaluating severity of retinopathy ofprematurity in a retina of a patient is provided that is superior toconventional techniques. Agraphical user interface (GUI) is provided for receiving biographicalinformation for the patientcreating a patient record in a database via the GUI. A photograph of theretina of the patient iscollected and placed in the patient record via the GUI. The photograph is thenanalyzed todetermine vascular distributions within the retina. A zone 1 boundary isassigned to the retinabased on a set of threshold levels with respect to the determined vasculardistributions. A systemfor performing the automated method is also provided.
