ACTIVATED SEMICONDUCTOR COMPOUNDS HAVING INCREASED ELECTROCHEMICAL REACTIVITY AND ASSOCIATED METHODS THEREOF

Provided are novel compounds whichdisplay enhanced reactive properties due, in part, toinduced lattice strain. The new compounds demonstrateaccelerated leaching of copper under oxidizingconditions. The activated compounds are produced underconditions of time, temperature, Eh, and pH whichretard the rate of lattice strain relaxation. Thus, there areprovided compounds defined by the Formula (I):(CuFeS2)n.Cu(6)Fe(x)S(y) wherein the variables aredefined herein. Further provided are methods of makingand using said compounds.
