Disclosed are a streaming media transmission method applied to a virtual reality technology and a client. The method comprises: the client transmits a media information obtaining request to a server, the media information obtaining request comprising client capacity information and auxiliary information, wherein the client capacity information indicates the client to support reception of data push, and the auxiliary information indicates the client to support attributes presented by virtual reality; and the client receives media presenting description and media data, wherein the media presenting description and the media data are transmitted by the server in response to the media information obtaining request. According to the streaming media transmission method and device applied to the virtual reality technology of embodiments of the present invention, transmission delay can be reduced, and transmission efficiency can be improved.
