The present invention relates to a method for producing pitch based on catalyst-decomposed intermediate residue. More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for producing high purity pitch with high carbonization yields and a softening point. According to the present invention, catalyst-decomposed intermediate residue is heated by gradually raising a temperature, and pitch produced by a solvent extraction method is extracted to effectively remove hard oil distillate, thereby remarkably increasing a degree of polymerization for aromatic rings.
