The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a composition (I) comprising providing a mixture (I) comprising a composition (A) comprising at least one multifunctional isocyanate and at least one inorganic acid (aa) as component (ai) and a solvent (A) to obtain an organic gel, and drying the resultant gel. The present invention also relates to a method for producing a porous material. The present invention also relates to a porous material obtainable by the above method and to the use of the porous material as a heat insulator and as a catalyst.
